4 steps to feeling legitimate as an entrepreneur
🕵🏽♀️ “I’m not too sure where I’m going with this business idea”
📲 “I started a little project, on the side”
🆕 “I don’t see myself as an entrepreneur as such”
By any chance, would you have said these phrases?
To be honest with you, I’m more than a little guilty of it! Imposter syndrome hello. If you’re an entrepreneur, chances are you struggled with self-empowerment and didn’t feel legitimate at the beginning of your adventure. These are the points that I think are important to focus on when you’re having trouble feeling legitimate and positioning yourself as an entrepreneur.
My points of reflection:
1 – Assume yourself as a businesswoman:
I’ve chatted with my network of entrepreneurs (friends and clients) and I see so many similarities. Many young entrepreneurs do not identify themselves as such. And yet, they have launched themselves as independent professionals. In other words, an entrepreneur “is a business owner who creates an economic activity”. When you provide added value to customers and are paid for your skills, I believe you are an entrepreneur. (There are still some debates regarding freelancers, contractors shall be identified as entrepreneurs.)
2 – What ‘s your brand ?
You need to know the message, the DNA of your company. What is the mission, vision and values of your company? You have to position your company and have a clear idea of what you want to create. I can’t say it enough but your branding is important! It doesn’t have to be perfect. You have the right to adjust and re-evaluate it along the way. It’s your business, your rules!
3 – Who are you as an entrepreneur?
What do you love? How does that translate in your business? It’s good to know what your strengths and weaknesses are. And you don’t need to push yourself to be perfect. For example, if you are less comfortable with visuals, branding, don’t panic! Surround yourself with a community or network of experts to support your growth. As an entrepreneur, we always think we need to be perfect, well you don’t need to excel at everything, I think if you should be to master something it shall be people, again make sure to surround yourself. Delegating will allow you to stay focused on where you can add the most value in your business.
4 – What you think is what you bring:
Law of Attraction 101. Your mindset is the heart of your business. You don’t have to wait until you get your first $1,000,000 to feel like a worthy entrepreneur. It’s quite the opposite! Feel it and treat your business like a raw diamond. Of course, that’s an image, but you get the point? You must know your value and the value of your business to be aligned with your ambitions. Trust me, your customers feel it!
